• Mt. Garfield: Climb steep ridges and rock ledges to an overlook of the wild horse area and Grand Valley. The view is worth the effort when you find yourself at eagle height - not for the faint-hearted or those afraid of heights. (6 miles round trip, strenuous).

• Little Bookcliffs Wild Horse Area: Various trails with differing levels of difficulty.

Colorado National MonumentOld Spanish Trail National Historic Trail
In the early 1800s, the Old Spanish Trail was a primary route between California's Spanish missions and Santa Fe, New Mexico. The North Branch linked Santa Fe to trading outposts near Green River, Utah, through the San Luis Valley, Cochetopa Pass, and along the Gunnison and Colorado Rivers. Marcus Whitman used the North Branch on his famous ride to save Oregon for the Union.

Mountaineers like Kit Carson, traders like Antoine Leroux, and explorers such as Gunnison, Fremont, Heap, Beale, Marcy, and Brewerton traversed this trail.

Flattops Wilderness
Immerse yourself in the seernity of the Flattops and South Fork of the White River.
